Who Is Jessie's Closet?
Jessie's Closet is an initiative of Desert Grace Community Church of the Nazarene. With a deep desire to find a way to meet needs in our community, our missions council began searching for the right project to make a difference in the lives of those who call Yuma their home. There are already great agencies in-place for many of the needs in our community, but a support of this type for foster children and foster parents did not exist here. The church's mission council took on the project of creating and managing the Closet after hearing first-hand about the need from lead pastor, Rev. Clint Augustyn - a foster parent himself.
Jessie's Closet is named after Jessie Hall, an important person in the history of the Desert Grace Missions. Jessie pioneered a love for others both here in our community and around the world, and had a powerful impact on those she met. In January 2013, Jessie moved from Yuma to Idaho to be closer to her family. The congregation honored her with a Distinguished Service Award and then the Missions Council named its foster care closet in her honor.
Karen Liles, mission director for the church also serves as director of Jessie's Closet, and the Board of Directors for Desert Grace has final authority for matters related to its operation. Donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law under the church's 501(c)3 I.R.S. designation.
